Evening in Memory of David Harman
Radical
Dir.: Christopher Zalla | 122 minutes

Other Screenings

This evening is dedicated to the memory of David Harman, who championed the Cinematheque from its very first day, and served as an active member of its board for many years. David was a son of Jerusalem, a teacher, an educator, a lecturer, an educational entrepreneur and a professor. He saw education as a basic human right, and worked tirelessly to expand educational opportunities to different populations, out of a conviction that this was the best way to create a healthier, and more just, society. He would have loved "Radical" because he knew that a good and creative teacher has the power to change students' lives. May his memory be a blessing to us all.

Opening remarks: Daniel Mimran, Chairperson of the Board, JFC

Mexico 2023 | 122 minutes | Spanish | Hebrew, English subtitles

The Mexican border town of Matamoros is plagued by neglect, corruption and violence. Sergio Juárez, a new teacher and already frustrated, tries a radical new method to break through his students' apathy and unlock their curiosity, their potential... and maybe even their genius. Based on a true story. Winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Festival, Radical is based on true events. The film finely balances tragedy with playful optimism to present a moving tale of possibility and hope, and benefits from an amazing turn by lead actor Eugenio Derbez (Coda).
