Italian Valeria Collina fell in love with a Moroccan immigrant, converted to Islam, and moved to live with him in his homeland. The film meets her 20 years later, upon her return to Bologna. Her identity as a woman, an actress, and a devout Muslim of Catholic origin is upended when she learns that her son was involved in a terrorist attack at London Bridge. After days of confusion and disbelief, Valeria finds herself alone and decides she must rebuild her life. After the Bridge closely looks at the dissonance between the thoughts of a mother dealing with the terrible damage caused by her son, and the private grief of a mother over the death of her son. This is followed by a candid search for answers to difficult questions about faith, spirituality, and loss.
