Lisandro Alonso’s film tells the story of a Danish general stationed in Patagonia with his beautiful daughter. When she runs off with a young soldier, the general sets out in search of the young couple. Viggo Mortensen delivers a breathtaking performance.

An ascetic sailor, who has lived on cargo ships for 20 years, asks the ship’s captain to go ashore to visit his mother. Like Ulysses, he returns to his homeland after many years at sea, yearning for home and family.
The film is conducted as a kind of poetic meditation that examines the Sisyphean work of a lumberjack as he goes about his daily routine. Alonso establishes his unique cinematic language, which challenges and blurs the boundaries between fiction and documentary.
