For three years, master filmmaker Ruth Beckermann followed a class at a large elementary school in Vienna. Through the inclusive and respectful approach of teacher Ilkay, we witness how these children—immigrants from Syria, Turkey, and Serbia—gradually develop into individuals, and how the class transforms into a vibrant, supportive community. This film offers a warm, intimate portrait of one class, while also exploring key issues that are shaping Europe and the world today: immigration, authority, community, and identity. Under Beckermann’s direction, the result is both thought-provoking and emotionally moving.
