Sworn Virgin

In the snowy mountains of Albania, Hana has taken a vow of abstinence, adorned men’s clothing and a riffle, and adopted the name Mark and the right to evade a forced marriage. Following her parents’ death, she moves in with her sister in Italy and struggles to determine which identity to retain. Laura Bispuri's debut film explores questions of cultural and gender identity through sparse cinematic language and minimal dialogues. More than a compressed drama, Sworn Virgin maintains subtle and tender cinema, and with Alba Rohrwacher’s androgynous appearance, presenting a mysterious work worthy of attention.
