Shambhala

Nepal, France, Norway, Hong Kong, China, Turkey, Taiwan, USA, Qatar 2024 | 150 minutes | Tibetan, Nepali | Hebrew, English subtitles

In a remote Himalayan village where polyandry is practiced, Pema marries Tashi and his two brothers. When Tashi embarks on a trading trip and Pema discovers she's pregnant, rumors spread that she has conceived out of wedlock. The villagers' gossip and Tashi’s reluctance to return due to the rumors push Pema to journey into the wilderness to find him. Accompanied by Karma, a monk, and Tashi's brother, her journey becomes one of self-discovery and liberation. Shambhala is a stunning visual meditation on independence, social expectations, and the balance between tradition and personal freedom. Presented almost like a documentary, the film showcases breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, rituals, and music, offering a grand yet intimate epic. Moving at its own rhythm, Shambhala invites viewers into a spiritual, almost ethereal cinematic experience that rewards those willing to immerse themselves in its world.
