The Apprentice

USA 2024 | 122 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

Roy Cohn was Senator McCarthy's aide on the infamous committee and the lawyer who sent the Rosenbergs to the electric chair. Unrestrained, ruthless, dark – he was the ghost of American conservatism. In the 1970s, Cohn helped the Trump family overcome investigations into their real estate empire. That's how he met the young Donald Trump and prepared him with some stern rules about the business and political world. The Apprentice describes 15 years of the relationship between Cohn and Trump, and Trump's transformation from a young, inexperienced heir to a slick, uninhibited businessman. Ali Abbasi demonstrated immense talent with "Border" and "Holy Spider," and his look at America once again reveals his wisdom. He avoids portraying Trump as a villain, emphasizing the character's sympathetic traits. The result is sort of a biographical, historical, and political portrait that looks to the past to hint at the future.
