M*A*S*H

USA 1970 | 118 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

A field hospital in the middle of the Korean War. Two top-notch surgeons have zero to no motivation and spend their free time messing around in one form or another. On the other hand, stands the new dutiful head nurse. M*A*S*H, Robert Altman's first success, holds he trademarks of the great director: fluid camera, rich soundtrack with plenty of talkative ramblings, and a narrative structure that relies on unhinged and humane moments. The film may take place in Korea, but it was released at the murky height of the Vietnam War, and you can't miss the anti-heroic attitude towards war, which has nothing sacred. A stepping stone of cinema, M*A*S*H has endured a host of tributes and imitations and is still effective and relevant.
