Bernie Lootz is the unluckiest guy in Las Vegas. His wife left him years ago, taking their son, his cat won't come home, and the waitress always runs out of milk when he orders coffee. He is so unlucky that he owes the Shangri-La casino $100,000. The owners decide to hire him as a "cooler" - a job in which he walks around spreading his bad luck. A few days before he completes the return of his debt, he falls in love with Natalie, a waitress in the casino. When she returns his love, Bernie's luck turns around.
